Shooters 18, Unknowns 1 |
The Doofus Shooters hosted the Unknowns thursday
afternoon, in what was a complete blow out. The game was thought to have been closer, as it was through the first 2 and a
half innings. The Shooters took the lead in the bottom of the first after Chris Hess singled to drive in a run.
In the top of the second inning, Andy Smith took Chris Hess deep on the first pitch. Hess threw a hangin curve ball and Smith
sent it 80ft deep outta LF. That was the only run the Unknowns would get, as Hess dominated the entire game striking out 15,
surrendering only 5 hits and 3 walks in 6 strong innings of work. Out of the 18 outs in the game, 15 of them were strikeouts.
An unbelievable pitching preformance, backed by lots of HRs gave the Shooters just what they needed.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Ashley Luongo singled to drive in the go ahead run. The run that ended up giving them a lead
they would never surrender. Hess blanked the Unknowns in the top of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, things looked like
the game would still be deadlocked until James Strang came up and smacked a Grandslam. One of this two in the game. That broke
the game wide open, 6-1. The next batter, Chris Hess, ripped a solo shot of his own off pitcher Zach Atherton. The next batter
walked, then Jaimie Peek joined in on the fun smacking a 2 run HR of her own to give the Doofus Shooters a commanding 10-1
lead. Things got crazy in the 4th. In the top of the 4th, Zach Atherton lined a rocket into Chris
Hess. The ball smacked off his chest, and deflected right towards first base for the out. Zach finished the day going 2 for
8. Andy Smith also had a nice defensive display, as he leaned over the RF foul line fence and snagged a ball hit
by Ashley Luongo. Melissa Chamberlain picked up her first career playoff hit today, as she smashed
a 2-1 breaking ball by Hess into RF. Luongo picked it up quickly and threw to first, but Hess bobbled it and she was safe. The
crowd went nuts. Hess said he wasn't expecting her to even swing. It was amazing.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Doofus Shooters put this game way out of reach. James Strang hit his second Grandslam to give
them a 14-1 lead. Hess added another HR as the Doofus Shooters rolled to a satisfying 18-1 win, and secured a spot in the
finals. They play the winners of the Muckdogs/Cyclones. |
