Pitching wasn't the problem today, putting men on base was. The Muckdogs could only put together a couple of hits as they lose in the finals 4-2, and finish a respectable 2nd place (3-5 overall)

green_tree_frog.jpg The game started out high scoring, as the Muckdogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after Ben Lamb launched a BOMB deep to LF for the first run of the game. Ben took the first pitch off pitcher Chris Hess gone. It was a hangin curve ball that had 'hang me bang me' all over it. Ben has always been good at hittin things when he sees them hangin. Good job on that Ben Lamb.
It seems as if that HR from Ben was a wake up call for Hess, as he just breezed through the next couple of innings. Hess allowed only 2 hits the entire game, walking only 5 and striking out a sweet 15 batters. Lets not put all the spotlight on Chris, as Dustin Quay put on a pitching clinic of his own. Dustin pitched 5 very strong innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 run, walking 9 and striking out a career high 14 batters. He only throws one pitch, but hey.. if no one can hit it.. why fix what aint broken? The young 15 year old shows a lot of promise next year. If this rookie can work on his pitching skills next year, maybe develope a couple of new pitches, he has Cy Young award written all over him.
Anyway back to the game. The Doofus Shooters put a nice fat 4 spot on the scoreboard on the bottom of the first.
Hess singled in the first (his only hit of the game) to load the bases up. Jason Rosel then walked to tie the game 1-1. After 3 more walks to bring in runs, the Shooters took a comfy lead of 4-1. A lead that would eventually hold up the entire game.
The next 4-5 innings, both pitchers seemed to be on cruise control for the most part. As pitching dominated the rest of the game. With a 'huge' amount of hits in the game (5), the game tempo was set by the pitchers. Hess was in bit of a jam in the top of the 4th. After he struck out the first two batters, Hess went on to walk the next three in a row. With the bases loaded, James Strang stepped up to the plate. Strangler worked the count full, until Hess whispered in there a curve ball that caught the outside corner to end the inning. That was one of the rare times the Muckdogs threatened.
With a comfy lead heading into the top of the 6th, pitcher Chris Hess was briefly replaced by rookie relief pitcher Nick Sutter. Sutter was able to get James Strang to pop up, but then promptly allowed a rocket single by Dustin Quay. Dustins single was turned into a double after a throwing error by first basemen Ashley Luongo. Nick then walked the next batter, Steve Madia, then Chris Hess quickly came right back in. Dave Wolf was up next, and he took the first pitch into CF, as a fielding error by Nick Sutter, lead to another Muckdog run. Dustin Quay scored from 2nd base as the Muckdogs cut the lead down to 4-2. With a man on first and second, Ben Lamb stepped up to the plate. Ben had hit a HR in the 1st inning off of Hess, could he repeat? The answer is no. Hess struck out Ben in 3 pitches. Ending the game on a 0-2 Knuckle Curve. Game over. Doofus Shooters win 4-2, and finish 8-0 overall in the season. Thanks for all the help and support for making this season a sucess. Next years league looks to be twice as fun. Can't wait.
