The 9 commandments

Hess Field Rules
Wiffle Ball Rules made by Chris Hess

  1. Games shall be 6 innings in length. If the score is tied at the end of 6 innings, extra innings will be used to determine a winner.
  2. There is pegging people with the ball because of the small field and small base paths. The ball must hit the player in the air and cannot bounce off the ground and hit the player.
  3. THE FIELD: Anything hit over the fence is a Home Run. No running into the fence or touching of the fence. A player may reach over the fence to grab a ball. If the player catches the ball over the fence, it is an out. If the player drops the ball and it lands on the other side of the fence, it is a Home Run. If the ball is hit over the Home Run fence, and hits a tree branch and falls down, the player may catch it for an out.
  4. HITS: There is no bunting. Anything hit outside the foul line is a foul, and counts as a strike. If the ball is hit on the ground and rolls through the fence, it is a Ground Rule Double. The batter takes two bases. Any other players on the base paths advance two bases.
  5. BALLS AND STRIKES: Shall be determined by a cut out square measuring 32" high, 22" wide, 12" off the ground. If the ball travels through the square in the air, it is considered a strike, even if it hits the side first. If the ball does not go through the square, and is not swung at by the batter, it is considered a ball. A pitched ball that hits the batter is also a ball, although the batter must attempt to avoid being hit. If a batter has 2 strikes and foul tips the ball through the square, it is considered strike 3. Four balls constitute a walk, and 3 strikes are an out.
  6. PITCHING: The pitching rubber will be 35 feet from home plate. Hitters will get 4 balls and 3 strikes. A strike shall be called if a pitched ball a) goes through the target strike zone in the air, b) is swung at and missed by the batter, or c) is fouled by the batter. Pitchers are allowed 10 warm up pitches before their first inning or first appearance of work. All subsequent innings or appearances, they are allowed 5 warm up pitches. A pitch that completely misses the back net will result in a wild pitch. All base runners advance one base.
  7. RUNNER ADVANCEMENTS: There is no base stealing. Each runner must have one foot on the bag until the ball is put into play. Infield fly rule is in effect. If there are two runners on the bases with one out, and there is a popup, the batter is automatically out. Only one base is allowed on an over throw.
  8. UMPIRING: Honestly rule is in effect unless there is an umpire on hand at the game.
  9. SCOREKEEPING: The hitting team keeps track of the score. Verify the score each half-inning with the other team.
